About Meredith Pressley Stone

Fairness. Equity. Experience.

I chose a career serving the public, victims, survivors, and justice-involved people from all walks of life. – Meredith Pressley Stone

I am a Buncombe County native and I decided early on that there is no better place to live and no better work to do than helping people in our community, especially people who experience harm and neglect.

I graduated from Enka High School, and then UNC-Chapel Hill with degrees in psychology and political science, and then NC Central University School of Law. I chose a career serving the public, victims, survivors, and justice-involved people from all walks of life. I work as a prosecutor, and have done so for the past 16 years. I live in Black Mountain with my husband, Ryan, and our daughters, Olivia and Riley. I am active in my church, Mountain View Church in Black Mountain, where I currently serve in the nursery. I have also served as a greeter and craft leader for Vacation Bible School.

Family comes first for me. Four generations of my family live here in Buncombe, from my 99-year-old granddaddy, WWII veteran G.B. Pressley, to my daughters, ages 4 and 6. My father, Gary Pressley, graduated from Lee Edwards High in Asheville. He passed from ALS more than 10 years ago and is still in our hearts. My mother, Rebecca Sutton Pressley, graduated from Enka High.

My love and devotion to my family is the foundation for my commitment to all the families in our community. We all deserve to feel safe and supported and to live in a community that prioritizes fairness and equity. I ask for your support and your vote so that I may serve you as our next District Court Judge in the Honorable Calvin Hill seat.

Treatment Courts

I have deep experience serving veterans, people living with addiction, and people who have been marginalized and treated unfairly. Inequity harms our entire community.

Diversion

I work closely with our diversion programs, which provide pathways for treatment and behavior modification rather than convictions.

Driver’s License Restoration

I advocated for and filed motions to set aside outstanding court costs and fines on traffic cases in a project serving more than 800 people in Buncombe County.

Expunctions

I have worked closely with Pisgah Legal Services, and Campbell and Duke law students to eliminate eligible convictions. These programs increase and extend justice in meaningful ways.
